Are we really in week 3!? We've had a busy week with teething and a cold, so we've been skipping some 'meals'. It's nice at this stage that he doesn't really mind one way or another. I have found that the best time to let him self-feed is in the afternoon, after a nap. One day this week (was it Wed. or Thur???), I set him up with some carrots and shredded chicken from a soup I made and let him play while I cooked/cleaned up the kitchen. He had so much fun and was entertained for a good while! Here he is sampling some chicken.
I did try to feed him some yogurt off a spoon and he wasn't having it! He just wanted to hold the spoon. Little stinker!

Week 2--He's getting it!
Bo has slowly started to actually eat some food! Yesterday, I sliced an apple and baked it with a little butter and cinnamon. He seemed to like that! He also enjoyed pizza crust at supper.
Tonight he had some sweet potatoes (baked) & dark meat chicken. He has also figured out the sippy cup! He sure was surprised when water came out. :)

Weekend
We had a busy weekend away from home. I only took a slice of a whole wheat bagel thin (just what it sounds like....a thin bagel). He chewed on that a bit, but I think the traveling had worn him out. He did chew and swallow a bit of chicken! These pics are from Friday's supper. Toasted bagel thin and sweet potato slices.

Day 6 & 7
Let's see. Day 6 was Wed. and I can't really remember much about that day. Ha! I know I put an apple slice in the mesh feeder (he couldn't hold on to the apple) and he chewed on the handle. ;) He doesn't seem too interested in anything that is cold. Can you imagine the adjustment from going from warm milk to all sorts of textures, temperatures, and flavors!?
Yesterday was banana and toast at breakfast, which he didn't want. At lunch he chewed on a piece of pizza crust. He did get some pieces off and practiced his chewing and swallowing. I think it felt good to his gums too (one tooth is through, working on the other). At supper, I put a piece of steamed broccoli & some sweet potato on his tray. He chewed on his spoon, then he wanted out of the high chair after a minute. I put him in the exersaucer while we ate and he was as happy as could be!
Week 1 summary: He doesn't think too much of food right now. I'm sure he'll be eating us out of house and home before I know it though. :) I honestly think he'd be doing about the same with purees too. He pretty much turns his nose up to anything (except toast/breads & sweet potatoes).

Day 5
For breakfast, I put a bit of vanilla yogurt on a spoon for him and also gave him some toast. He seemed to really like the yogurt (what made it in his mouth!). I didn't want to give him too much dairy too quickly, so he didn't get much.
For supper, he had leftovers. ;) I put some avocado on his tray, which he barely touched, and the rest of his sweet potato from yesterday. He had a few bites of that, I believe.
Oh, and he hasn't really gagged yet on any of this food. I've noticed a few times that he's moved the food back to the front of his mouth for more mashing, but no coughing/gagging.
I've got some new fruits for Bo in the next couple of days, so stay tuned!
